before their first class.

I've never done Jiu-Jitsu before. Is that okay?
Yes — that's exactly who this beginner path is built for. You start with a free class, learn the basics in a beginner-friendly setting, then move into the 8-week beginner course with other new students.
Am I too out of shape to start?
No. You don't need to get in shape before starting Jiu-Jitsu — starting is how you build strength, mobility, conditioning, and confidence. Most beginners are surprised at how quickly they progress once they begin.
Will I be thrown into sparring on day one?
No. Your first class is a low-pressure introduction. The goal is to help you understand the basics and feel comfortable on the mat before any sparring. You're never tossed in unprepared.
Who will I train with in the beginner course?
The 8-week beginner course is designed so you start alongside other new students. In Fundamentals classes, our staff also pairs you with people who can help you learn — not crush you on day one.
What should I wear?
A gym shirt and shorts — tighter-fitting athletic clothing works best. Bring water and a good attitude. If you join the 8-week beginner course, your signature 10PLI rash guard is included.
Is this only for young athletes?
No. Adults of every age and experience level train here. There's a dedicated Masters 35+ class for students who want to train smart and sustainable — built around technique and longevity.
What if I'm nervous?
Most beginners are. That's normal — and exactly why your first class is free. Come in, learn the basics, meet the team, and ask anything you want. No commitment, no pressure.
Do I need a gi?
No. 10th Planet Long Island is a no-gi Jiu-Jitsu academy. We train in rash guards and shorts — modern, dynamic, and closer to real-world grappling.
How much does the beginner course cost?
Program options are explained after your free class — once you've seen the academy, met the team, and decided whether it feels right for you. The first class is free, so there's no commitment before you've actually trained.
What happens after I fill out the form?
Our staff reaches out, helps you find a time that works, and schedules your free class. After class, we'll explain the best next step for you — whether that's the 8-week beginner course or a Fundamentals class.
